Music and Life

I've tried so many things in my life, but music is the one thing I just cannot seem to live without. If someone asked me what my favorite CD  is, I would have to say "Billy Breathes" by Phish. It's not just that I love the music, but it's the sentiment related to all the songs on that album. My son was still young, and had just began to go with us to the shows. We had precious friends, and some great memories connected to them, and to the festivals and shows where we had gone to see that particular band together.
I'm sure we can all hear a song and connect it to some great, or not so great memory in our lives. But I feel like our strongest connections to the best times in our lives, can always be remembered when we hear certain songs or music.
I just recently changed my mind about what I want to do with my life. In October of 2010 I offered to manage my favorite local band. I had been following them since 2002, and could not get enough of them live. They had played at the coffeehouse I owned at the time, and they made me smile, and dance until my legs were sore. They still do. I was nervous about booking for them, but I had been booking bands for seven years at my own venue, so I knew I could figure it out. Since then, I have found a new family through them. I organize events, book, promote, and work with musicians everyday. I have even met some of my favorite musicians, and they are just like any of us; human beings with families, friends and responsibilities. I believe music can heal people, change their lives for the better, and definitely bring us all together as one. This world needs a healing right now, and I'm hoping I can be a small part of that somehow.

I love meeting musicians, and there's nothing better than staying up all night listening to a backstage jam, or just chatting with my new musical friends. Most touring musicians I have met are down to earth simple folks who are just happy playing their music.
There are so many new musicians out there that have no way of knowing what is it they should do first. How do I get new fans? How do I book shows? Where should I play? etc. I just want to share what I have learned, and hear others experiences, advice, show stories, road stories, and all and any other things music related. I chose the name "The Monad" because of my recent new found love of sacred geometry. The Monad represents the number "One" A single unit, or a single music note. I chose this because I hope to unite us together through this blog by sharing the aforementioned things.  Musicians, bands, booking agents, promoters, photographers, artists, sound people, light people, tapers, etc. There are so many faucets to this business. There are so many people that make it work.  So the fun begins. This is day one. Just beginning with my first post. We shall see where it goes from here.
